I Boogi and The Thug – odd names, but proven winners

Two oddly but very likeable named gallopers, I Boogi and The Thug, scored well deserved victories for connections and the Cameron Racing stable to kick start a successful June.

I Boogi put a disappointing last start behind him with a dominant win at Sandown on Wednesday 6 June.

Having started well, Damian Lane parked I Boogi just behind the speed to the home turn on the Lakeside course. Lane asked I Boogi to quicken into the home straight and he went clear, staying on strongly all the way to the line to win the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1600m) by 1 ¾-lengths.

At Mornington on Monday 11 June, The Thug (by Auhorised out of a half-sister to Mummify) carried a decent weight to dead-heat for first in the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap over 2000m. The seven-year-old gelding sat second throughout the trip but moved up on the corner to under smart riding by Fred Kersley.

Both winners are a welcome tonic for co-trainers Russell and Scott Cameron. Skill and experience still count for a lot in this game, and the father and son combination have those attributes in spades.
