A filly by one of Victoria's most promising sires
2yo Bay Filly
- Sire: Toronado (IRE)
- Dam: Mystic Dancer (by Starcraft)
- Foal Date: November 6, 2017 (AUS)
- Trainer: Nigel Blackiston (VIC)
Half-sister to WHAM, recently placed in the VOBIS 3yo Sires at Caulfield and 4th in the Listed Bendigo Guineas
There were many sires represented with yearlings at the Inglis Gold sale, commanding appeal. Swettenham Stud’s Toronado is one of those.
“For a November foal, this filly is already a nice size. In six months time I expect her to be a strong, powerful girl ideally suited to mile races. Being by Toronado, a fast son of High Chaparral and showing great promise both in the Northern Hemisphere and in Australia, is a bonus.” – Nigel
The sire of this filly, TORONADO, was a seriously good horse. By HIGH CHAPARRAL (a legend), Toronado won the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at three and the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at four. That puts him up there with the best milers in the world in his time.
Being a fast son of High Chaparral is an added bonus, especially for Australian racing conditions. His first crop are just two years of age, and we have already seen three winners from just 11 runners (to 29 Apr), including the impressive PRINCE OF SUSSEX (winner of The VOBIS Sires Showdown).
The dam of this filly, MYSTIC DANCER, has already produced two winners from 2 foals to race. VON MYSTIC has won four races and placed in Metro Melbourne twice, whilst WHAM is a winner and placed fourth in the Listed Bendigo Guineas. He then progressed to place in the VOBIS Sires at Caulfield on Saturday 27 April.
We particularly like this filly’s pedigree, displaying a SADLER’S WELLS sire-line / NUREYEV damsire-line cross. These two close relations, when appearing in a pedigree similar to this pattern, is especially successful. The pattern has produced 40 stakes-winners, eight at Group 1 level including CRACKSMAN, TAVAGO and SACRED ELIXIR. Overall, the high degree of line-breeding to blue hen mares NATALMA, SPECIAL and SOMETHINGROYAL resulted a high score on our pedigree research.
