Out of a winner-producing dam from a strong family

To be trained by Group-winning trainer Stephen Lee at Ballina, this filly is by the exciting sire Deep Field, sire of one of the Golden Slipper favoured runners COSMIC FORCE.

“Such a lovely filly in type and nature. Being BOBS and Magic Millions race series eligible makes her such an exciting filly to be involved in.” – Stephen Lee

The Sire

In a brilliant sequence commencing with his debut performance at the age of three, DEEP FIELD one five races straight culminating in the Group 2 TAB.com.au Stakes at Flemington.

At his next race start, his first for the Autumn campaign, he placed third in a very strong edition of the Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes behind Lankan Ruppee and Brazen Beau.

Retiring to stud duties at Newgate Farm, Deep Field is considered one of the fastest horses to enter stud in recent memory. His pedigree boosts his claims, being by NORTHERN METEOR out of LISTEN HERE, making him a full brother to Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner SHOOTING TO WIN.

As at 22 August, 25 of his progeny have won. He finished well entrenched in the Top 4 First Seasons Sires Championship by all measures – winners, wins, earnings and stakes-winners.

His winners include Group-winning 2YOs COSMIC FORCE and DIG DEEP, and the stakes-placed HAWKER HURRICANE, DEEP SEA, BIG PARADE and XILONG.

The Dam

MEDUSA is a daughter of Golden Slipper winner and outstandingly consistent sire, STRATUM. Retired unraced, Medusa is from a strong family of stakes-winners.

This filly is Medusa’s third foal. Her first foal, SAN FRANSISCO, is a winner of five races including a Sydney metropolitan win and several placings.

The Trainer

Stephen Lee was brought up in the Hunter Valley, Australia’s home of Thoroughbreds, and has spent a lifetime around horses.

He trained successfully at Coffs Harbour before moving to Ballina in the early 1980’s. Ballina is ideal for access to many country race meetings throughout Northern NSW, in addition to Provincial and Metropolitan races in QLD, thereby giving the opportunity for horses to be placed carefully with success.

Stephen knows what it takes to train top class horses with multiple metropolitan winners in Brisbane and Sydney, and a Group win in Brisbane (Anton En Avant, Group 3 Chairman’s Hcp 200m at Doomben). He has won two Northern Rivers Racing Association Premierships and numerous country cups.

Stephen’s philosophy for success, and main aim for training a racehorse, is to ensure they are content and happy in their work and environment, to achieve their full potential of their ability and success. The racehorses receive the highest level of care, and individual programming for feeding, and a diverse work regime tailored to the needs to each individual.

Stephen’s work ethic is very hands on as he is very passionate about spending as much time as possible knowing his horses, and for them to feel confident with him.
